Podcast Equipment

Finding the right equipment to perfect your sound will take some time.  These are the products we are currently using to record our podcast.

We use the Zoom H6 Six-Track Portable Recorder to record our podcast. The best thing about this recorder is that it can be used two different ways; as a digital recorder, or as a audio interface. We can’t wait to take the recorder out and do some live interviews with the people of San Francisco.

Our mic setup still needs some perfecting, but this is working for us at the moment. We use 3 Audio-Technica AT2035’s.  We had originally purchased the NEEWER Adjustable Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand, but that was not working out for us and our setup.  After some searching, we found the On Stage Adjustable Desk Stand and that made all the difference in the world, as it gave us more room around our table and our guest hosts had better access to our mics.  Finally, we use the Mudder Foam Windscreen to help with background noise in our untreated recording space.

As far as cables, our mics came with xlr cables and those seem to be working just fine. I do recommend a 3.5 mm to 1/4 inch Mono cable if you would like to add in phone calls. You plug in the 3.5 mm jack into the headphone port on your cell phone (it works on the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus via the dongle) and the other end directly into one of the mic ports on the Zoom H6. This is the simplest way to add a phone call into your podcast with having to deal with the mix-minus issue. BELIEVE ME!
